A word from our Director: Global struggles and the pursuit of peace

A word from our Director:
Global struggles and the pursuit of peace
As we witness the ongoing struggles of displaced individuals around the world, it is impossible not to ignore the injustice that communities are facing. Small boat shipwrecks continue to claim lives in the English Channel, which again is a reminder of the dangerous journeys undertaken by those seeking safety, opportunity and a “normal” life. Simultaneously, Europe is facing severe flooding, displacing families and communities, while in Southern Africa, they are still enduring relentless drought brought about by the worsening climate crisis. These extreme climate challenges highlight the hardships faced by many, pressing us for urgent action.
The fight for survival and courage of people trying to make better lives under extraordinary circumstances are commendable. At DRH Lindersvold, we embrace their spirit and stand in solidarity with them. Our mission at the school is connected with these global issues, and we strive to train and empower our students to build on their skills to create positive change with a sense of global citizenship, compassion, and support at the projects of Humana People to People in Malawi, Zambia, and India.
The 21st of September, 2024, marks the 25th anniversary of the International Day of Peace. The UN established this day with the adoption of the ‘Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace’ in 1981 to promote global peace, raise awareness of conflicts, encourage non-violence, and promote unity and human rights. It was created to provide a specific time for individuals and nations to commit to peace and conflict resolution efforts worldwide.
Peace is not merely the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, equality, and sustainability. In honouring this day, we reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and peaceful world, aligning our efforts with the broader struggles for a better life and supporting those communities.
Warm Regards,
Tina Whittington
Director of DRH Lindersvold

What is Volunteer for Change
The Volunteer for Change programme is based on two concepts: Sustainable development and international solidarity.
The programme lasts ten months and is an opportunity to learn about the big issues of our time – and to do something about them in practical terms.
The Volunteer for Change programme provides an opportunity for people from the Global North to learn from, and volunteer with, community-driven development programmes in the Global South run by members of Humana People to People. These projects respond to challenges within the spheres of community development, education, sustainable farming, early childhood development and mitigation of the climate crisis.
The fast-paced and action-based Volunteer for Change programme takes ten months:
3 months of training and preparation in Denmark
6 months of assisting a sustainable development programme at a Humana People to people project in the Global South
1 month of reflection, evaluation, and sharing of experiences.
DRH Lindersvold – The Travelling School for Change – welcomes everyone who is interested in working together with us to address humanitarian and development challenges worldwide.
Let’s create a better world together.
