How I Made My Way to DRH Lindersvold

05.03.2025 | By Cláudia A

I had the opportunity to travel from Copenhagen to DRH Lindersvold with two of my team mates: Claudia and Cristiano, both Italians. We agreed the day before that we would meet at the train station around 12 PM.

As usual for me, I arrived earlier. I always take into account that something unexpected can happen. When to my surprise I find 5 of our my teammates at the train station: Celia, Andrea, Silvia, Maria Jesús, and Mariana. As I knew Celia from the WhatsApp photo, I went to greet them and suddenly one of them was already wanting to help me buy the ticket to leave immediately with the group. For me it was a duality of feelings: on the one hand I wanted to leave immediately, as I was super excited to arrive, on the other hand I had already committed to the other two teammates. They left and I decided to wait for Claudia and Cristiano, who also arrived quickly.

We bought the tickets all together and continued the journey. In one of the train changes, we missed the train by a fraction of a second, which led us to a one-hour wait for the next one – breathe and accept.

Upon our arrival in Faxe, at least for me, it was a relief to confirm that we really had someone waiting for us to take us to the school. Until that moment, the whole process is done online, and some doubts arose in my head. “Perfect, this is real, I am really going to live this fantastic experience”- I thought to myself.

Arriving at the school was exciting and the first thing I thought was “This place is really beautiful”, as it is surrounded by fantastic nature, which I find relaxing.

The environment among classmates and teachers was welcoming and friendly, which made me feel very comfortable. The rooms were prepared with harmony and chocolates, I felt love in these intentions.

A GREAT WAY TO START! I FEEL READY! LET’S GOOOOOO

What is Volunteer for Change

The Volunteer for Change programme is based on two concepts: Sustainable development and international solidarity.

The programme lasts ten months and is an opportunity to learn about the big issues of our time – and to do something about them in practical terms.

The Volunteer for Change programme provides an opportunity for people from the Global North to learn from, and volunteer with, community-driven development programmes in the Global South run by members of Humana People to People. These projects respond to challenges within the spheres of community development, education, sustainable farming, early childhood development and mitigation of the climate crisis.

The fast-paced and action-based Volunteer for Change programme takes ten months:

3 months of training and preparation in Denmark

6 months of assisting a sustainable development programme at a Humana People to people project in the Global South

1 month of reflection, evaluation, and sharing of experiences.

DRH Lindersvold – The Travelling School for Change – welcomes everyone who is interested in working together with us to address humanitarian and development challenges worldwide.

Let’s create a better world together.
