Are You a Sports Enthusiast or Just Looking to Stay Active? Whether you’re a fitness fanatic or someone who simply enjoys occasional activity, at Lindersvold, there’s something for everyone! In this blog, we’ll take you through the exciting sports and fitness options available here, from group games to solo challenges. So grab your gear and keep reading to see how you can stay active while soaking in Lindersvold’s beautiful surroundings.

What Sports Can You Enjoy at Lindersvold?

With a little creativity, the possibilities are endless! Based on the experiences of our volunteers, we’ve created a list of activities so you can choose the right one based on your interests and your fitness level. Let’s start!

Walking

Explore the stunning natural beauty around Lindersvold. The area is largely untouched, offering peaceful walks along the fjords up to the nearby beach that is only 3km away. Just remember to pack an umbrella if you’re visiting in the winter!

Cycling

The school provides a few bikes that are free to use. Discover the roads and trails, either solo or with fellow volunteers. It’s a fun way to stay fit while exploring the area.

Running

For those who love a challenge, pack up your running shoes because Denmark’s even terrain makes it ideal for training. You can follow the road to the beach, the circle trail around the school or run up to the closest town, depending on how skillful you are. If you’re running in winter, though, don’t forget your flashlight, the sun rises late and sets early!

Hiking

While Denmark’s highest point is only 173 meters, you can still enjoy some forest trails a few kilometers from the school. You may need to drive but these spots are perfect for a day of light hiking and reconnecting with nature.

Swimming

Bring your swimsuit! There’s a public pool nearby with affordable entry fees, and it even includes a sauna for those who want to relax.

Team Sports

The school has a sportshall equipped with everything you need for basketball, volleyball, badminton, indoor football, or even indoor hockey. Gather some friends, set up a match and have fun!

Individual Workouts

Do you prefer to work out solo? The sportshall has mats, dumbbells, resistance bands, and other equipment. While it’s not a full-equipped gym, it’s more than enough to stay fit. You can also try calisthenics for a more intense workout.

Yoga

You can practice yoga in the sportshall or in the privacy of your room. Yoga mats are provided to you.

Table Tennis

If you are a fan of this sport, you will love to know that there is a dedicated table tennis room near the main entrance. Be prepared because you might even meet some table tennis pros among the volunteers.

When can you practice sports?

Lindersvold values the importance of staying active, so the schedule includes dedicated sports slots. Here’s a quick overview (although you should keep in mind that this a general rule, thus it’s subject to changes):

Weekdays: generally between 09:00–10:00 and occasionally 17:00–18:00 before dinner.

Once a week: A group fitness session after dinner.

Sundays: typically brunch is served at 11:00 so you can use the free time before that.

Besides these fixed slots, you will also have some time to use freely. The sportshall is open daily from 07:30 to 21:30, giving you plenty of flexibility to fit in your workouts.

As you can see, there are no excuses not to work out! With so many options to choose from, staying active at Lindersvold is easy and fun. Whether you prefer peaceful walks, intense workouts, or team sports, you’ll find the perfect activity to match your interests and fitness goals.

So, are you ready to make the most of your stay?

What is Volunteer for Change

The Volunteer for Change programme is based on two concepts: Sustainable development and international solidarity.

The programme lasts ten months and is an opportunity to learn about the big issues of our time – and to do something about them in practical terms.

The Volunteer for Change programme provides an opportunity for people from the Global North to learn from, and volunteer with, community-driven development programmes in the Global South run by members of Humana People to People. These projects respond to challenges within the spheres of community development, education, sustainable farming, early childhood development and mitigation of the climate crisis.

The fast-paced and action-based Volunteer for Change programme takes ten months:

3 months of training and preparation in Denmark

6 months of assisting a sustainable development programme at a Humana People to people project in the Global South

1 month of reflection, evaluation, and sharing of experiences.

DRH Lindersvold – The Travelling School for Change – welcomes everyone who is interested in working together with us to address humanitarian and development challenges worldwide.

Let’s create a better world together.
