Empowering environmental change: Insights from our Nature Now students.

In these challenging times, it is enraging to witness the ongoing injustices against Palestine. The bombardment of tents in the designated ‘safe zone’ of Rafah, where already displaced people are struggling to survive, and the loss of over 34,000 lives in Gaza represents an urgent need for peace and justice.

It is hopeful to see many students and young people worldwide raising their voices against these atrocities. Recently, there has been a surge in pro-Palestinian protests across university campuses worldwide. From the United States to countries in Europe and beyond, students are demanding their institutions reconsider financial ties to Israel. Some universities, such as Northwestern and Brown, have taken significant steps by agreeing to divestment considerations and creating platforms for dialogue – but there is still a need for more direct action.

The Peace and Justice Conference in May served as a crucial platform for sharing perspectives and advocating for a just and peaceful resolution to the conflict and others around the world. We continue to support and amplify the voices calling for justice.

In other news, our Zambia, Malawi, and India teams are now well underway in their project period and busy using their training and working alongside the local community to help support improvement in their daily lives. Even though all our current students are away from the school, we are still busy. Our promotions team is enrolling new students for our two August programmes (Nature Now and Volunteer For Change), teachers are prepping and updating the programmes and the whole team is involved in building weekends to prepare the school for the student’s arrival.

What is Volunteer for Change

The Volunteer for Change programme is based on two concepts: Sustainable development and international solidarity.

The programme lasts ten months and is an opportunity to learn about the big issues of our time – and to do something about them in practical terms.

The Volunteer for Change programme provides an opportunity for people from the Global North to learn from, and volunteer with, community-driven development programmes in the Global South run by members of Humana People to People. These projects respond to challenges within the spheres of community development, education, sustainable farming, early childhood development and mitigation of the climate crisis.

The fast-paced and action-based Volunteer for Change programme takes ten months:

3 months of training and preparation in Denmark

6 months of assisting a sustainable development programme at a Humana People to people project in the Global South

1 month of reflection, evaluation, and sharing of experiences.

DRH Lindersvold – The Travelling School for Change – welcomes everyone who is interested in working together with us to address humanitarian and development challenges worldwide.

Let’s create a better world together.
