The Adventurous Team

Hello, beautiful people!
Today is the core’s group activity day, which means that we have to do something together.
To be very honest, I wasn’t very enthusiastic about it, and I asked if I can work instead on my mile stone, 20 km walk and 20 km bike, I walk 8 km a day, but biking I manage just like 100 meters before I almost broke my nose. You know, when something is not working blame somebody or something, so in this case, the bike didn’t work, that is the explanation for my failure.
Coming back to my question, the answer was a big NO. So, I excepted my faith and got in the car! And one hour later, here we are at Møns Klint.
We arrived in 4 cars and a van, courtesy of our friends from Botilbut. Our fearless teacher Clara, told us that some of us will have to walk and climb because we cannot take all the cars up to the cliff. So, we all decided to walk there, less her who went with the car. So, let’s get going people! And we start.
After 1 minute, Tommaso yelled: “You are going in the wrong direction!”, so we went back, and cross the road. I was in the middle of the two groups, because when we crossed the road, we lost some of our comrades, who went in other direction. The wind was blowing very hard, so I put my headphones and I listen to some music.
Martina, Nicole, Karola, Jakub, and me went on one pathway, but Tommaso, the groups guide, yelled again: “That is not the way!”. Martina looked at her phone and answered: “My GPS says this way!”. So, we went down, or so I thought, to follow the rest. At one point, Joana came towards me running asking me, if I want them to wait for me, I said no, I catch up with you. I didn’t realize until later that I was the last on the group because, Martina and the others when on a different direction. So, we went along trough, the path, looking up at nature’s beauty, and then, there it was the breathtaking sight of the sea, viewed from on top of the cliff.
For few minutes I forgot the cold, the wind and everything around. I was looking only to that enormous beauty which laid in front of us. We started to go down, on the stairs to see the water up close.
The waves were beating furiously at shore. Suddenly, our fearless guide became Cristiano, who didn’t seem to slow down. So, we become, like one of my favorite cartoons characters use to say: “brave and bold” and follow the leader.
After a few meters, came the challenging part. I felt like the Olympic games 100 meters hurdles, because from 5-10 meters we have to jump a huge tree, who fell from the cliff in to the sea. So, like any good athletes, we jump or went under them, which way was easier. I was trying to keep up, Cristiano was way ahead of us, then was Silvia and Emma and there was me.
I tried to catch up with them, but I was kind of tired of jumping up and down trees and I decided to take the short way, through the sea. I look at the waves and I make my run. Of course, I miss the finish line with few centimeters and I took some much need water in the right snicker, but at least I made it. There was no problem except the fact that the water was freezing.
Ok, let’s move on! I went along the shore climbing and descending till I reach another huge trunk tree. I made the same assessment as before to make a run for it, and I was ready, but at the last second, I hesitated and the inevitable produced my feet got soaking wet. I’ll have to blame Ariel (the little mermaid), because I think I saw her waiving at me. Finally, I reach Emma and Silvia, the both stood there talking.
Then I look at Emma, whose legs were covered in mud. I ask: “What happened? Did you fall?” She said: “No. I thought that was land, but actually was mud and I got stuck in it. For a moment there, I thought that I would have to leave my boots there in the mud, I was ready to do that because I couldn’t move my legs, but when I tried to free them, but I couldn’t because the shoe laces were to tide up and I push so hard that I finally free my feet.”
I try to be supportive and I said: “Don’t worry, I just meet the sea people, because I’m soaking wet!” Silvia laughed. “So, ladies let’s move along!”

At one point I reach Cristiano, who help me to climb a crest, but afterwards I don’t know what happened that he ends up behind me and Idelma.
Idelma, kept saying: “Let’s climb up!” But the point is that the terrain was very difficult and we didn’t reach the point of the stairs to climb up.
We continue to jump trunk trees, till we got to two of them, which were deep in the sea an in a very wired angle. I told myself, I’m not going to jump from one tree to another, so I climb here and then I going down.
Perfect, only that the distance from where I stand and the next piece of land was kind of far. I manage to climb down only to realize that, I can only put on foot down because what seam land was in fact a pile of mud in which my left foot end up. So, I tried to go back to climb the tree, that Idelma climbed like a pro.
Only I had a tiny little problem, I couldn’t get back up. I wait for Cristiano to get where I was, but surprise, he literally lost his shoes in the mud and when he took them out, he went straight in the sea to wash his them.
Daniela who was next to me, she said: “ Let’s, pull you up!” but of course, she couldn’t because the difference in the terrain. She finally said: “ You, can do it, it’s just a step!” And I did it, ending up like Cristiano in the sea to wash the mud from my snickers. After that nothing matter. Idelma, like a brave warrior took the lead and we start to climb up.
We reach the famous stair, and guess what, the initial stair was broken from the middle on the side that we have to climb, but hey, don’t worry we didn’t give up. So, we start to climb in a 70 degrees angle. I tried to stand and I almost fall, but right behind me was Joana, who literally push my butt. I turn and thanked her for the assist.
All the way up, our planet protector, Tommaso ask if we are all, starting to count us, to make sure that we are all. Finally, we reach the top and our brave Idelma, stumbled and fell on her butt, but is ok one tumble anyone is allowed.
Claudia Sofia, who was waking beside me, supportively told me: “Don’t worry, I’m soaking wet too!” We took a big breath and started to walk towards our descending point. We reached it and stood silently to take in the wonder of Mother’s Nature. Then, we start walking again to the exit. In our way out, our fearless guide Cristiano, took another path taking us on the wrong side of the fence, literally.
We were on the left side, instead of the right one. He said:
“Don’t worry we jump the fence!” And he did it and after he yelled: “Don’t touch it, its electrified.” Good, now what? Me and Rita, we tried to find a piece of wood to step on it, so we can be able to jump the face. It was a big piece of wood, but was wet and it just slipped through my hands, broking my nail, but that was not important.
Then, the cavalry arrived, to the rescue, Silvia and Tommaso who got close the wood, so we could jump. The last one passing was Tommaso, since he is taller than us, he didn’t need the help of the trunk wood. This is what I call team work. Working all, towards the same goal.

After this exacting adventure, we end up in some kind of lake where a family of geese was having an afternoon stroll.
On our way back to the cars, we saw some beautiful ladies, who were also having a walk. We, as polite people said: “Hello!”, but didn’t get an answer, maybe because some of them were having dinner? You know, that is impolite, to speak with your mouth full. Sorry, for the interruption ladies!
We finally get to the cars, tired, wet, muddy, but happy because that was an adventure that will make Huckleberry Finn jealous.
I, on the other hand, I wouldn’t want to go with anyone else on another expedition than with my ADVENTUROUS TEAM.

What is Volunteer for Change
The Volunteer for Change programme is based on two concepts: Sustainable development and international solidarity.
The programme lasts ten months and is an opportunity to learn about the big issues of our time – and to do something about them in practical terms.
The Volunteer for Change programme provides an opportunity for people from the Global North to learn from, and volunteer with, community-driven development programmes in the Global South run by members of Humana People to People. These projects respond to challenges within the spheres of community development, education, sustainable farming, early childhood development and mitigation of the climate crisis.
The fast-paced and action-based Volunteer for Change programme takes ten months:
3 months of training and preparation in Denmark
6 months of assisting a sustainable development programme at a Humana People to people project in the Global South
1 month of reflection, evaluation, and sharing of experiences.
DRH Lindersvold – The Travelling School for Change – welcomes everyone who is interested in working together with us to address humanitarian and development challenges worldwide.
Let’s create a better world together.
